TerryTerry fishes at Caps (Colchester Angling Protection Society) waters where they have Houchins, a small resevoir with cats plus Olivers and Snake pit that have unofficial stockings of cats. I am a carper that has recently had some cat action, and got the bug! 24.8, last year then 26.8, 29.2 and 37.5 all in this last few weeks May / June plus one run that fought for 15 mins and then away. Felt good just having it on but I give my respect to these great fighters. Originally fishing 12lb line and 8lb mono hooklink with a single piece of sweetcorn (for carp) got me fighting for 20 mins to land my first ever cat at 24lb 8oz. Then I blanked when trying to catch them until this May when 26.8 and 37.5 were my reward in one night, then the next week 29.2 and lost another one after a struggle. Last Friday night I blanked but I am out again this Friday!! I still use 12lb line but I now use 15lb braid hooklink as my mono hooklink has been easily munched through. I am very proud of my cats as the pictures show. The top one is a 37.5 cat landed on 27th May, the bottom a 29.2 on 3rd June (excuse my West Ham hat but I sleep better when my head is warm). The photos were taken thanks to total strangers on the bank who have been woken at 3.00am to take my pictures and have been happy to help - really nice people! Good to know that you have a good bankside freindship on your water too! Although for years stories went around that the Snake pit cats had died off, this spring a pike fisherman had a shock - he landed a 54lb cat. Olivers has about 6 and Houchins about 20 including one called Goliath that has come out at 52-53lb a few times this year. Most of the Houchins cats fall in the high teens - low thirties weight bracket. I blanked again on Friday night but then again it is not easy to trick these pressured stock of cats.
